The Yes campaign will hold more than 40 mass walks this weekend across the country with tens of thousands of Australians expected to unite in support of a successful Yes vote.
Walks for Yes events will take place in every capital city and regional centres across Australia. More than a dozen music acts will also play at these events, including Peter Garrett, Missy Higgins, Dan Sultan, Paul Kelly, John Butler, Bernard Fanning and Spiderbait.
Walks across the nation include:
- New South Wales – Sydney, Tuncurry, Southern Highlands, Eden, Bathurst, Narooma, Port Macquarie, Central Coast, Braidwood, Orange, Goulburn, Newcastle, Wollongong, Blue Mountains, Queanbeyan
- Queensland - Brisbane, Townsville, Bundaberg, Cairns, Yungaburra, Tweed Heads, Mackay, Rockhampton, Hervey Bay
- South Australia – Adelaide and Kangaroo Island
- Western Australia – Perth, Albany, Geraldton and Margaret River
- Victoria – Melbourne, Barwon Heads, Warrnambool, Safety Beach
- Tasmania – Break O’Day, Burnie, Launceston and Hobart
- Northern Territory – Alice Springs and Darwin
- Australia Capital Territory - Canberra
Yes23 Campaign Director Dean Parkin encouraged Australians to attend a Walk for Yes event near them and show their support.
“This will be a unifying moment for our campaign. Tens of thousands of Australians will come together this weekend to back a Yes vote on 14 October,” Mr Parkin said.
“We are a people-powered campaign, and this will be on show over the weekend, as Australians from all walks of life show their support for a Yes vote.
“Australians will walk together this weekend just as we are asking them to walk together with us on 14 October to recognise, listen and deliver better outcomes for Indigenous people.
“There is significant and broad support for the Yes campaign and this will be on full show over the weekend with dozens of walks to take place.
“Whether it be in Hobart, Adelaide, Wollongong or Cairns – Australians from all parts of our country will be out in force in the strongest show of support for the Yes campaign to date.
“I encourage Australians to attend a Walk for Yes event near them, be part of this positive movement and get informed about the importance of a successful referendum.”
